Project 2: Treasure Chest

2/19/2020

I modeled my treasure chest after this handmade treasure chest that someone on Etsy made from Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes. I've never played this game, but I chose to model this treasure chest because the seller posted a lot of clear pictures from different angles. I tried to make my treasure chest look as similar to the model as possible, but I think mine came out shorter and squatter than the original.

Some wireframe views of the chest (with treasure removed):

The lid of the chest looks a lot more crowded and convoluted than the bottom because I made it by placing 8 separate pieces of "wood" together, with two thin "metal" strips on either side holding it all together. This is because in the original, the bottom of the chest was solid on the inside but the top of the chest was actually made with strips of wood, so I emulated it by physically arranging rectangles together. Since the inside of the bottom portion of the chest didn't have any gaps I just emulated wood on the outside by extruding inwards.

For the treasure inside the chest, I downloaded a free model from here and moved some pieces around so that it would fit in my chest, and for the wood texture I Googled a wood texture that most closely matched the color of the box.

This is the final animation with the wireframe at the end. I took the treasure out of the wireframe shot because it made the box really hard to see.
